Generic Fluconazole also known as Zocon, which is an eye drop used to overcome the fungal corneal ulcers and fungal keratitis in the eyes. Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal drug that works by inhibiting a certain fungal enzyme and reduces their growth in the eyes. It used to treat the corneal inflammation caused by a fungal infection which leads to redness, eye pain and blurred vision.

Fluconazole is a topical ophthalmic medicine, which inhibits the certain fungal enzyme and prevents lanosterol into the ergosterol. An ergosterol is the important part of the cytoplasmic membrane of the fungus, which disturbed the fungal cells and ultimately kills the fungi. This drug is only used in the fungal infection not in the virus or bacterial infections.


  • This drug should be avoided if you are allergic to the generic Fluconazole.
  • Do not use this drug if you have the kidney and liver problems.
  • Avoid the use of this drug in case you are the patient of the cardiac disorders.
  • The drug should not be applied to the children who are younger than 2 years.
  • Women who are pregnant and breast feedings should hot use this drug.  
  • Avoid the drug if you have asthma problem.

Drug Interactions:

  • Beta blockers taken by mouth such as Propranolol.
  • Antidepressants like Fluoxetine, tricyclics such as Amitriptyline

  • Antihistamines like Diphenhydramine

Storage conditions: It should be stored at room temperature below the 300C. The drug should be kept away from the children and pets.

How to use Fluconazole:

  • Wash your hands before applying the drug for preventing the contamination.
  • For applying the drug roll your head towards the back side and pull down the lower lid of the eye being treated and squeeze one drop onto the eye.
  • Close your eyes slowly at least for 30 to 40 seconds and wait.
  • Do not blink fast after putting the drug as the effects of the drug decreased.

Missed dose: If you missed the dose then apply it as soon as you remember it. Do not put twice the drug as it creates some side effects.

Overdose: In case of overdose you should consult with your doctor.

Adverse effects of Fluconazole:

  • Headaches
  • Disturbed vision (Blurriness or auras)
  • Feeling of a foreign object in the eye
  • Irritation or burning sensation in the eye
  • Swelling of the eyelid
  • Increased tear production or buildup

Precautions should be taken while using this drug:

  • Avoid driving just after the intake of the drug because the administration of the drug produces blurred vision for some time.
  • If you are using any types of supplements, vitamins, or herbal products then avoid the use of this drug.
