Cosopt contains Dorzolamide and Timolol as active ingredients used to combat the open angle-type Glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It used to decrease the pressure inside the eye and also reduces the fluid which present in the eye. Glaucoma is defined increased the fluid which flows through the eye. Due to the enhancement of fluid leads to reduction in draining of fluid from the eye. Hence, accumulating of the fluid in the eye and the higher pressure occurred in the eye.


Generic Dorzolamide and Timolol are the active component of this drug. Dorzolamide belongs to a class of drugs known as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and helps to decrease the high pressure in the eye. Timolol belongs to a class of drugs known as beta-blockers, which reduces the amount of fluid present in the eye, which is main reason of the open angle Glaucoma. Use of this drug treats the open angle-type and ocular hypertension in the eye.


Contraindications:

  • If you have histories of asthma than do not take this drug.
  • Avoid the use of this drug if you have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
  • Do not use this drug if you have the serious heart condition such as slow heartbeats, heart failure etc.
  • Patients who are suffering from the asthma, narrow-angle glaucoma and bronchitis should not use this drug.
  • If you have the kidney and liver diseases, then avoid the use of this drug.
  • Diabetic patient should not use this drug.

Drug Interaction:

  • Oral beta-blockers like Propranolol
  • Calcium channel blockers such as Diltiazem, Verapamil
  • Oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors like Acetazolamide, Methazolamide
  • Antidepressants such as fluoxetine
  • Other durgs like Digoxin, Epinephrine, Fingolimod, Methyldopa, Quinidine, Reserpine and Theophylline

Storage conditions: Store this drug in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat and light. Store this drug at room temperature.

How to use Cosopt:

  • Before using this eye drop wash your hand properly.
  • Remove the cap of the container carefully.
  • Tilt your head before using the drug and put the drug in the inner space of eyelid.
  • After using the drug do not blink your eye.

Missed dose: In case of missed dose, apply the drug as soon as possible. Do not use more than prescribed dose of the drug.

Overdose: Overdose produces side effects so avoid the use of this drug in extra amount. If you take overdose by mistake, then contact with the doctor.
