Combigan is a combination drug, which contains Brimonidine tartrate and Timolol maleate used in the treatment of high pressure inside the eye. Both drugs are used to decrease the glaucoma or ocular hypertension disorders which are associated with eye diseases. Brimonidine is a type of an alpha agonist and helps in allowing the fluid drainage within the eye and also by declining the amount of fluid formed in the eye. Timolol, a beta blocker work by decreasing the amount of fluid formed in the eye.


Combigan is an eye preparation, which is a combination of two active components such as Brimonidine tartrate and Timolol maleate. These active components reduce the quantity of liquid which produced in the eyeball and augment the drainage of fluid from the eyeball, which leads to appropriate tension in the eye.


Combigan is contraindicated with certain types of the conditions such as:

  • If you are allergic to the generic Combigan then avoid the use of this drug.
  • Individual who has a history of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary should avoid the use of this drug.
  • Person who is suffering from the heart disease should not use this drug.
  • If you have the eye infections then do not use this drug.
  • Children should not use this drug.
  • If you are suffering from the mental disorders like depression and anxiety, then do not take this drug.
  • If you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitor, such as Phenelzine or Tranylcypromine then avoid the use of this drug.

Drug Interactions:

  • Beta blockers taken by mouth such as Propranolol.
  • Antidepressants like fluoxetine, tricyclics such as Amitriptyline
  • High blood pressure medications like Clonidine, Reserpine
  • Calcium channel blockers such as Diltiazem, Verapamil
  • Antihistamines like diphenhydramine
  • Anti-seizure drugs such as carbamazepine
  • Muscle relaxants or narcotic pain relievers like codeine

Storage condition: It should be stored at room temperature below the 30 0C. The drug should be kept away from the children and pets.

How to use Combigan eye drop:

  • If you use contact lenses then remove them properly, use this drug and wait for 15 minutes, after that you again use the contact lenses.
  • Before using the drug wash your hand and then use it.
  • Tilt your head slightly and make a pouch in the lower eyelid of the eye.
  • Put the drug with the help of the dropper and close your eye foe 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Do not rub the eye after putting the drug as it may cause swelling and itching in the eye.
  • Do not touch the dropper by hand as it may produce infection in the eyes.

Missed dose: If you missed the dose then use it as soon as possible then do not repeat the dose for make up the missed dose.

Overdose: In case of overdose contact with doctor immediately.

Precautions should be taken while using this drug:

  • Avoid driving just after the suing of the drug as it causes the blurred vision.
  • Avoid the alcohol consumptions along with this drug.
  • Pregnant female should not use this drug.
