Garamycin or Gentamicin is dynamic drug used as an antibiotic, which diminishes the bacterial infection. It is used to treat the severe or grave bacterial infections.

Garamycin is a broad spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic that is most nominal in contradiction of aerobic gram-negative bacteria. It is used in combination with other antibiotics to treat infections, which is caused by gram positive organisms such as staphylococcus aureus and certain species of streptococci. In addition gentamicin is used in combination with a penicillin antibiotic to treat endocarditis. Gentamicin irreversibly binds to the 30S ribosomal subunits by which, it kills the bacteria by hindering the production of bacterial proteins.

Gentamicin is the excellent antibiotic and for handling teh bacterial infections of the bone, urinary tract, stomach, skin and soft tissue, respiratory tract and blood, and heart.

Mainly the action of gentamicin is for gram negative bacterial species, including pseudomonas, proteus and gram positive Staphylococcus and certain species of streptococci.

Drug Interaction

Some remedies may interact with Garamycin solution. Tell your physician if you are taking any other medicaments

  • Polypeptide antibiotics (such as polymyxin B) because it can reduce the breath and also stop and kidney damage may occur
  • Cephalosporins, fludarabine, cyclosporine, loop diuretics (such as furosemide), NSAIDs (eg, ibuprofen), methoxyflurane, nitrosoureas (eg, carmustine), or vancomycin because the risk of Garamycin solution's side effects, including kidney damage or hearing loss, may be increased
  • Nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (like atracurium) or succinylcholine because the risk of their side effects may be increased by Garamycin solution

Proper Storage of Garamycin Solution

  • If you are using Garamycin solution at home please keep it at normal room temperature.
  • Keep Garamycin solution out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Precaution While Taking Gentamicin / Garamycin

Some important safety information while using Garamycin

  • Garamycin solution only works against bacteria; it does not treat viral infections
  • Consult with your health provider if you feel stomach pain or cramps, or bloody stools occur.
  • Make sure that you use full treatment of Garamycin solution. If you do not take the full course, the medicine may not clear up your infection completely.
  • Long-term or repeated use of Garamycin solution may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur.
  • Some of these products contain sulfites. Sulfites may cause an allergic reaction in some patients (eg, asthma patients). If you have ever had an allergic reaction to sulfites, ask your pharmacist if your product has sulfites in it.
  • Do not Garamycin drug if you any dental care, emergency care, or surgery.
  • Pregnancy and breast-feeding females should not use this drug as it may cause harm to the fetus
